Burnley Youth Theatre was the first purpose built youth theatre in the UK and opened in 2005.
We work hard to reach young people aged 0-25 and are constantly evolving and developing our work. Our mission is “creatively inspiring and challenging young people to take their next steps.” We provide multiple opportunities and points of access for children and young people to high quality arts and cultural activity through participation, through education, as young artists and as audience members for professional theatre. We open up possibilities for young people across the performing and other arts, and act as a gateway to the wider cultural sector. We enable children and young people to become independent creative thinkers who will show us where we need to go next.
We programme professional shows, and when our second space opened in 2014 we changed our site name to Burnley Arts Centre, home of Burnley Youth Theatre. We believe passionately in the difference we can make to children and young people’s lives. We work with 500-600 children a week in our home base, in schools and as participants and audience.
