The Grand Opening event of KAMAN Tooling’s brand new Center of Excellence took place on Thursday, May 29th at the new Aerospace Park in Burnley, Lancashire, this was attended by many of the leading decision makers from the world of aerospace manufacturing representing major OEM’s, Super Tier 1’s and Integrators,
Funding has allowed KAMAN Tooling to meet these new and futures challenges, with a clean sheet approach that has enabled the commissioning of a brand new purpose-built 34,000 square-foot manufacturing centre of tooling excellence (Phase I). With added benefits of allowing us to develop leaner process flows, and functionality to become significantly more operationally efficient. Additonal areas of improvements have been better vehicular access with the larger 7m x 5m access doors into our large spacious assembly bays supported by several 10t KONE cranes (8m under hook), that enables KAMAN to efficiently manage multiple projects concurrently in a safe and controlled environment,
Another key factor in the Investment plan is our new Correanayak 20m 5 axis CNC gantry milling machine, capable of machining the largest aerospace tools, which will be a major differentiator in allowing us to compete for much larger tooling that was previously out of range. We’ve also added a new DEA Delta Slant 6.3m Co-ordinate Measuring Machine used for advanced and complex high-precision digital inspection.
Another major positive in KAMAN’s future development plan, is that it could create a significant number of new jobs as the facility continues to expand into Phase II, which will increase the footprint to 64,000 square feet in 2015, said Mark Podmore (Managing Director of Kaman Tooling Ltd) part of the Aerosystems Division of Kaman Aerospace Group of companies.
