Burnley led the world through the industrial age by producing the most cotton cloth and were a founder member of the Football league, now known as the Premier League.

Much of this heritage remains and is enjoyed to this day. There are 300 listed buildings in Burnley. The world’s last steam powered weaving mill is in Burnley.

A wonder of the canal world, the descriptively titled ‘Straight Mile’, is part of Burnley, as are the stately homes of Towneley Hall and Gawthorpe Hall, where Charlotte Brontë used to stay.
