Burnley Council issues its first Business Support Grants today

Burnley Council has today made its first payments to businesses in the borough under the Government’s Small Business Grants fund. The payments have been made today through the BACS system and will be with businesses early next week.

The payments include one-off grants to businesses occupying premises with a rateable value (RV) of up to £15,000 who will receive a grant of £10,000. Businesses in Retail, Hospitality and Leisure with a rateable value (RV) of between £15,000 and £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.

Since the package of support for businesses was announced by the Government last week, Burnley Council has been working hard to identify those who are eligible for the grants.

Burnley Council`s Executive Member for Economy & Growth, Councillor Gordon Birtwistle said: “I’m delighted to say the council has made its first business grant payments today, with 89 Burnley business receiving their payment early next week.

“The Council`s Business Support, Finance and Local Taxation Teams are working hard to ensure we get grants to all eligible businesses as soon as possible. The teams have currently checked and processed 516 grants which businesses should receive in the next 10 days.

“Burnley has 2,186 eligible businesses, I would urge businesses within the relevant rateable value brackets to complete the online form which we have a link to from the homepage of the Burnley Council website as soon as possible. If you have already completed the form you don`t need to complete it again, your payment is being processed and will be paid via BACS directly into your bank account within the next ten days. I must stress that all applications are being checked in accordance with government guidelines to reduce any potentially fraudulent applications.”

Adding: “The council has also set up two dedicated business support lines which are 01282 477213 and 01282 477208, that all our businesses can call to find out about other support programmes they may be eligible for. Don`t hesitate to give the team a call if you need any help and advice at this unprecedented time.”

Businesses who haven’t completed the form can complete it from this link https://bit.ly/2R7TCYY if any you’d prefer to talk to one of the council`s Business Support team about the help and support available, please call the Council`s dedicated business support lines 01282 477213, 01282 477208.
