UCLan Burnley students celebrate ‘first class’ results

Dedicated students at UCLan Burnley are celebrating after reaching the end of their university-level studies and receiving their first-class results, helping them to build new futures and opening up a world of opportunities.

Hard work and commitment has paid off for the students who are now embarking on new careers in their chosen industries or have their sights set on promotion in their existing roles, whatever their sector.

Simon Jordan, Pro-Vice Chancellor at Burnley College, said:

“Huge congratulations to each and every one of our 200-plus UCLan Burnley students who have received their results: it is a time for celebration and reflection after all the effort and dedication they have shown to reach their goals and to become future leaders in their fields.

“UCLan Burnley are proud of the achievements of our students – whether they have come to university-level study straight from college or sixth form or if they have returned to education after a break. Their combined effort, alongside our Lecturers’ subject and industry expertise has firmly established Burnley as a university town with an enviable reputation for its close links with local Employers.”

UCLan Burnley students studying for full BA and BSc Honours degrees, Foundation Degrees, HNDs and HNCs received their results this month with many earning first-class, Grade 1 and Distinction accolades in a diverse range of subjects from PGCE teaching qualifications to Community Theatre and Performance, Mechanical Engineering to Children, Young People and Their Services.

Among those earning a Distinction is Vicky Mason, from Burnley, who has completed her Foundation Degree in Business and Management at UCLan Burnley. Vicky is a former Army medic who runs her own businesses. She said:

“I’m over the moon with my Distinction and I’m now planning to top up my qualification to a full BA Hons degree at UCLan Burnley. I’ve been able to arrange my studies around my work and family commitments and the support I have received from Student Services and my Lecturers has been outstanding. They’ve helped me to fulfil my ambitions and a full degree is within my reach now. It’s great to be able to study on a university campus in my home town and it’s given me opportunities I never thought existed to shape my own future.”

Also receiving a Distinction in her HND (Higher National Diploma) in Mechanical Engineering is Nabeela Desai, a Themis at Burnley College Mechanical and Manufacturing Higher Apprentice. Nabeela (21), from Blackburn, is a former pupil at Our Lady and St John Catholic College and is a key member of staff at Paradigm Precision, Burnley. She said:

“Engineering is my passion: it has been great to be taught by Lecturers who share that same love and have years of industry experience behind them. I’m really pleased to have received a Distinction in my HND which will help me progress my career and succeed in the industry I’ve chosen.

“The HND really suited my learning style: it was very practical and I could relate it to me career every stage, plus it is highly valued by employers and will help me to stand out from the crowd.”

The successful UCLan Burnley students are now looking forward to a graduation ceremony at Burnley Mechanics in September following a procession through the town centre from the UCLan Burnley Campus on Princess Way.
