Low Carbon Energy secures £2 million contract to deliver solar PV for Boohoo PLC

The Low Carbon Energy Company has won the contract to design, install and maintain a 2.7MW commercial solar PV system for online retail giant Boohoo PLC, to be installed at its distribution centre in Burnley.

The installation will be the largest single SolarEdge project ever carried out in the UK and will consist of 5,933 Hanwha Qcells Modules and SolarEdge inverters and optimisers. Work has already begun on the project, which will be completed and fully operational by the end of September 2021.

Once the system is active, it will save Boohoo 592 tonnes of carbon in the first year of its operation – the equivalent of 27,231 trees being planted. Furthermore, part of the contract will see £10,000 be donated in collaboration by both companies to local charities and causes. Boohoo has commissioned the new solar PV installation as part of its wider sustainability goals. Over the past two years, the company has been undertaking more detailed reviews of its facilities and processes, with a view to finding new and more innovative ways to improve its sustainability and make bigger cuts to its carbon footprint.

David James, Supply Chain Director at boohoo group, said: “We all have a role to play in protecting our environment for future generations. This installation will help us to make our operations more sustainable, with the double benefit of reducing our impact on the environment and generating a significant cost saving at the same time.”

Benedict Ennis, Business Development Manager of Low Carbon, stated “It’s a great project for us to win considering its on our doorstep. These sort of projects are key for the company to grow and we hope it will further solidify our position as one of the UK and Ireland’s leading providers of commercial solar.”

The Low Carbon Energy Company has over 30 years of combined experience, with a long history of helping SMEs and large corporations alike to transform their energy supply, enjoying considerable savings while cutting their carbon footprint. Both Low Carbon and Boohoo are Burnley Bondholders and it’s great to see two companies in our borough joining forces.
