New Greek takeaway goes down a storm in Burnley

A new Greek takeaway has opened in Barrowford and has proven so popular in Burnley, that we’re getting our own delivery driver.

The Village Greek and Grill opened in January 2021 and has done a roaring trade ever since. Burnley.co.uk tried it out on Friday night, but be warned, it sells out fast.

The best way to guarantee your takeaway is to order on its website well in advance and select the timeslot you want.

We went for:

  • Chicken gyros with burger sauce;
  • Pork souvlaki with garlic mayo;
  • Halloumi loaded fries with chip spice and hot burger sauce;
  • Loukoumades topped with chocolate.

The new venture is owned by husband and wife team Kurt and Genevieve, whilst trained chef Michal has worked around the world and specialises in Mediterranean cuisine.

The idea for the business came when Barrowford-based Kurt and Genevieve had a BBQ with their neighbour Michal in December 2019 (we love that they braved the elements in true Lancashire style!) and discovered he was a trained chef. Both Kurt and Michal wanted new work challenges and the idea was born. They secured the premises in Barrowford just before the first national lockdown, spent months refurbishing it and finally opened in January this year.

Speaking to Burnley.co.uk, Kurt said: “We are so grateful for the support we’ve had over the past few months. We’ve been incredibly popular and not just in Barrowford. I have close ties with Burnley as I have a very large family who live there and we’ve definitely gone down well there. We’re actually looking to hire a delivery driver just for Burnley to keep up with demand and to cover more areas in Burnley.

“My dad used to own a restaurant and Michal has ran restaurants around the world, so our partnership just seemed a natural fit.”

We wish them all of the best for their new venture and expansion further into Burnley.
